Founded by Air France in 1972, with their first hotel, Le Méridien Etoile in Paris, Le Méridien was created to share and extend the international experience. Inspired by the word “Meridian,” the line encircling the earth, they opened, seeking to infuse the brand with the romance of travel, the excitement of supersonic speed, the thrill of innovation, optimism and modern design.In 1994 Air France sold Le Méridien and in November 2005 they were acquired by Starwood.They have since celebrated a range of new openings in 2006 from Le Méridien St Juliens, Malta; Le Méridien San Francisco; Le Méridien Shanghai; Le Méridien Lav in Split, Croatia; to Le Méridien Ra, in Tarragona, Spain.Le Méridien’s promise is to offer their guests a new way to view their world, to navigate using their senses and to develop a sense of who they are.
